Growing up in Charleston, SC, he spent countless hours fishing the local salt marshes and exploring the freshwaters of Santee Cooper alongside his father, Henry “Skip” Hegel, a former Marine and one of the first to establish a bass boat dealership in the U.S. This early exposure to the world of fishing set Captain Dave on a path that led him to a lifelong career in the marine industry. With roles at Sea Ox Boats, Johnson/Evinrude Outboards, and Genmar Boat Holdings, he honed his knowledge and skills, collaborating with renowned anglers like George Poveromo and Denny Brauer.
